Meaning
Do not break relations with me
If nothing else, let there be enmity at least.
Explanation:
As long as there is some relation, there is hope. A negative relation can possibly turn into a positive one some day. But if a relation is broken, then there is no hope of a restitution.
In fact the one deadly sign that a relation is terminal is when people who were quarrelling stop every communication.
This is a message to people with strained relations to atleast continue to communicate. For, that gives hope that it may turn from negative to positive some day.
