The World A Children’s playground

Citation : Singh AR (2024). The World A Children’s playground. In :Ghalib, Psychology and Human Behaviour - 2 (A.R Singh and S.A Singh Eds), Mens Sana Monogr; 22:1. pg 6-7

baaziicha-e-atfaal hai duniyaa mere aage

hotaa hai shab-o-roz tamaashaa mere aage

(DG 209:1; 284)

Meaning

The world is like a children’s playground before me
I see the same spectacle repeated every morning and day before me

Explanation/Comment:

The world is like a child’s play for most of us.

What do children do?

They are preoccupied with trifling matters and fight over them with great intensity. Similarly, human beings grow up to remain children, preoccupied with minor matters or mundane chores which they keep fighting over, while the really significant eludes them.

Also, children create a fantasy world which they build and destroy daily. Human beings, too, make mansions and business empires which are an extension of their massive egoes, which they keep building and rebuilding, little realising that these offer no lasting happiness or peace.

The spectacle remains the same. Nothing has changed down the ages.
